AoU Research Priorities Use Cases

Different types of physical activity are associated with an increase or decrease in the risk of urinary symptoms in older adults

Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS, eg incontinence, overactive bladder, slow urinary stream) negatively affect quality of life of many individuals as they age, yet some people never experience LUTS. Different types of physical activity (eg walking versus heavy lifting) may protect against or increase the risk of LUTS. We propose to identify people >65 years old, with and without LUTS, and identify how physical activities performed for work/recreation over time may be associated with LUTS.
