AoU Research Priorities Use Cases

How do genomic, biological, environmental and societal factors combine to contribute to disease risk?

Complex diseases are a result of a complex interplay of genetic, environmental, host and societal factors operating over a prolonged time. Many factors associated with disease onset or progression have been elucidated using a silo-ed approach which fails to adequately assess interplay between factors. Longitudinal measures and more sophisticated analytical methods are needed to support comprehensive (e.g. systems or computational modeling) approaches to explore combined contribution of factors.

The remaining questions allow you to outline in more detail the information needed to address your research question. The series of questions allow up to five entries. If you have more than five entries, please try to prioritize them and enter the remainder in the final field. When done, click Submit at the bottom. No

Select your required Data Item #1, which is most important to your study. This would be an item that needs to be generated and collected from different sources using various procedures, tools, techniques, assays, etc. If not in the current selection, please enter it in the textbox below. Genome

By what method will Data Item #1 be obtained? This may Include procedures, tools, techniques, assays, and analytical approaches for the collection, measurement, or analysis of data. If you do not find the required method, you may enter it in the textbox below. Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS)

Are there specifications that apply to the method by which Data Item #1 will be obtained, e.g., is the measurement taken once a year, every month, or some other variation? If you do not find your specification in the dropdown, you may enter it in the textbox below. Once

Data Item #2 Genome

If Method #2 was not in the dropdown, please enter it here Epigenomic; RNAsequencing, Proteomics, Microbiome, Metabolome

If Specification #2 was not in the dropdown, please enter it here: At baseline, time of clinical diagnosis, every 10 years

Data Item #3 Environmental exposure

If Data Item #3 was not in the dropdown, please enter it here Environmental exposure and behavior

If Method #3 was not in the dropdown, please enter it here Surveys; Mobile monitors; Activity devices

Specification #3 Once per year

If Data Item #4 was not in the dropdown, please enter it here Clinical records

Method #4 Electronic Health Records (EHR)

If Specification #4 was not in the dropdown, please enter it here at baseline, time of clinical diagnosis, and every 5 years

If Data Item #5 was not in the dropdown, please enter it here General external exposures: including social capital, education, financial status, psychological and mental stress, urban-rural environment, climate, access to hospitals and schools, geospatial info, etc.

If Method #5 was not in the dropdown, please enter it here Could be assessed with activity monitor, EHR, mobile monitor, personal air pollution monitor, survey, smartphone ecological momentary assessment, or other measures

Specification #5 Once per year
