AoU Research Priorities Use Cases

How do our mindsets about diet, exercise, and stress influence health behaviors and health outcomes?

Research has shown that benefits of health behaviors such as diet, exercise, and stress depend not just on the behaviors themselves but on the mindsets people have about those behaviors (Crum, Achor & Salovey, 2013; Zahrt & Crum 2017; Turnwald, Boles & Crum 2017); however, large-scale databases have not yet included measures of mindset. The goal of this study is to use validated measures of exercise, stress and diet mindsets to test the effect of mindsets on health behaviors and health outcomes.
