AoU Research Priorities Use Cases

What is the etiology of lung cancer in never smokers?

Incidence and mortality rates of lung cancer in never smokers are high. Known risk factors only account for a small fraction of the cases. Methods to identify novel exogenous and endogenous processes of lung carcinogenesis: integrating genomics analyses of somatic mutational signatures + epidemiological and clinical data of risk factors and personal and family medical history + geocoded measures of residential exposures + detailed pathological record + in-vitro toxicological tests

The remaining questions allow you to outline in more detail the information needed to address your research question. The series of questions allow up to five entries. If you have more than five entries, please try to prioritize them and enter the remainder in the final field. When done, click Submit at the bottom. Yes

If you did not find your Data Item #1 in the dropdown selection above, please enter it here. Fresh frozen tumor tissue samples

If you did not find your method for obtaining Data Item #1 in the dropdown selection above, please enter it here. Collection of lung tumor tissue stored immediately after surgical resection in liquid nitrogen. Tissue samples should be then linked to histological record. Blood samples and FFPE tissue blocks are also needed

Are there specifications that apply to the method by which Data Item #1 will be obtained, e.g., is the measurement taken once a year, every month, or some other variation? If you do not find your specification in the dropdown, you may enter it in the textbox below. At specified times anchored to the clinical event

Data Item #2 Environmental exposure

If Data Item #2 was not in the dropdown, please enter it here.

If Method #2 was not in the dropdown, please enter it here Repeated questionnaires designed for cancer risk factors (known or suspected). Also mobile monitoring and geocoding for linkage studies

Specification #2 Once per year

Data Item #3 Genome

Method #3 Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS)

Specification #3 At specified times anchored to the clinical event

Data Item #4 History, health

Method #4 Electronic Health Records (EHR)

Specification #4 Once per year

Data Item #5 Air pollution measurements

Method #5 Personal air pollution monitor

Specification #5 Continuous monitoring
