Populations of limited health literacy have traditionally been underrepresented in genomic/genetic studies. WLS poses a variety of risks as well as a very specific set of restrictions: initially a highly restricted diet that relaxes over time. These risks/restrictions carry with them an emotional & sociocultural cost that is difficult to convey.
