How does participants’ health literacy (HL) level compare to national estimates and what is the role of HL in health outcomes?

Populations of limited health literacy have traditionally been underrepresented in genomic/genetic studies. We propose that All of Us participants complete brief baseline HL survey items as part of the Participant-Provided Information (PPI; The Basics). HL measures can be analyzed in comparison with national estimates and in conjunction with other All of Us measures (e.g., uptake on genetic testing, behavioral outcomes,... more »

What are key communication gaps in chronic kidney disease care between physicians and patients who belong to underserved groups?

This would be a mixed methods study. The qualitative section would involve interviews to ascertain gaps in in chronic kidney disease communication (likely risk assessment in CKD progression, information about dialysis options, mental health, advance care planning). This would be followed by surveys of patient-reported measures of communication, such as CAT (Communication Assessment Tool; https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17574367).... more »

How does AoU integrate with existing social, human, animal, ecological health data to answer integrated questions across levels?

There is a need to consider how these data will integrate with existing data systems at the outset of the AoU data collection. In order to answer complex, system-level questions about health causes and outcomes. Doing so will speed innovation in this space. Inclusion of social system data is critical.
